Sail+ Racing’s World Match Racing Tour is underway!
At Gravitas, we believe in backing local talent that exemplifies excellence, resilience and ambition – values that drive both our work and our community. That’s why we’re thrilled to sponsor Sail+ Racing, a youth sailing team making waves on the international stage.
From New York to Chicago to Detroit
Sail+ Racing kicked off their World Match Racing Tour journey in the United States with four Grade 1 events, securing an outstanding third place overall in the 2025 US Grand Slam – a remarkable achievement for a youth team taking on the world’s best. They opened with a sixth-place finish at Oakcliff International, stormed to third at the Thompson Cup hosted by Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, navigated every wind strength (including 30+ knots) to claim fourth in Chicago, then battled light, river-like conditions in Detroit to round out the series.
Home Victory and a Berth in Shenzhen
On home waters, Sail+ Racing defended their Hardy Shield title at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, earning enough ranking points to qualify for the 2025 World Match Racing Tour Final in Shenzhen, China. Competing against the top 12 teams globally, they finished a remarkable ninth in their first season on the WMRT circuit – a significant achievement for a team stepping up from the youth ranks.
Continuing the Momentum
Returning to China for the opening stop of the 2025 season in Macao, Sail+ Racing held their own at world championship level, finishing 12th against seasoned professionals. Back in Australia, they took third place at the Helly Hansen International outside the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, racing alongside top international crews. At the Sailing Champions League Asia-Pacific Finals in Newcastle, they showcased tactical brilliance to win the event – reinforcing their status as one of Australia’s brightest young teams. Their recent seventh-place finish at the Ficker Cup in Long Beach, California, and invitations to commentate at the Congressional Cup underline their growing reputation.
Most recently in Marstrand for the GKSS Match Cup, they kicked off with a thrilling day one in Sweden – pushing the world number one all the way, leading for half the race, and then claimed a win against the Congressional Cup champion.
Looking ahead, Sail+ Racing will return to New York for additional US Grand Slam stages. Their goal remains clear: qualify for the winner-takes-all WMRT Final in Shenzhen in January and launch directly into the 2026 season in Macao, China.
